Frontier Insurance

When entering the territory of the Republic of Croatia the driver of a motor vehicle registered abroad needs to have an effective international motor insurance certificate valid for the territory of the Republic of Croatia or any other evidence of Motor Third Party Liability insurance cover in respect of third party liabilities at least to the minimum sums insured set by the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

Motorists who are not able to certify the existence of a valid international motor insurance cover are obliged to purchase frontier insurance from one of the domestic insurance companies at the border crossings, which is valid for the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

For visiting motorists whose vehicles have been registered in the below listed countries the Green Card is not a required document and they do not have to take out frontier insurance; they may enter the Republic of Croatia freely since their national registration plates signify to the authorities that their car is insured in respect of Third Party liability:

Motorists of vehicles registered in the below listed countries need to have a valid Green Card:

If motorists of vehicles registered in the above quoted countries (Albania, BIH, Russia ...) have no Green Card or if their Green Card is not valid e.g. its validity expired, GC has been issued for another vehicle, GC has not been issued in the country in which the vehicle was registered, the initials HR have been crossed out ..., on entering the territory of the Republic of Croatia these motorist have to purchase frontier motor TPL insurance.

Visiting motorists of vehicles registered in countries not affiliated to the Green Card System e.g. Canada, USA and other countries as well as of vehicles registered in Kosovo also have to purchase frontier insurance  unless they are in the possession of a valid Green Card issued by an insurance company from any member country of the Green Card System.

The gross premium has been laid down in Croatian Kuna. The frontier insurance tariffs shown in the table below are unique for the entire territory of the Republic of Croatia.

PREMIUM LOADING

• 45% of loading is charged for vehicles under category C. and F. which are occasionally or permanently used for the transport of explosive or highly flammable substances or substances that may pollute the environment, stored in facilities during the course of transportation.

NOTES

• The frontier insurance is valid only for the territory of the Republic of Croatia. This clause must be entered into the policy.
• The international insurance certificate (Green Card) cannot be issued on the grounds of insurance purchased at the rates specified in the table.
• This premium group applies to the MTPL Insurance of vehicles registered abroad and owned by domestic and foreign natural and legal persons.
• Insurance is concluded according to the Frontier Motor Third Party Liability Insurance Conditions in force which are to be handed over to the policyholder together with the European Accident Statement.
• The insurance premium shall be paid in full either in cash or by non-cash means of payment.
• Light trailers (up to 750 kg) and caravans (up to 750 kg) are not subject to registration.
